Utah winter road maintenance crews have a long history of heroism and service.

Utah’s highly skilled “snow fighters” dedicate countless hours toward saving lives by maintaining safe winter roads.   Their contribution to keeping roads “open for commerce” also saves our economy millions of dollars each winter.  The Utah Snow Fighter seal is rich in symbolism that represents the focus and dedication of our crews.  Here are the symbols you’ll find on their proud seal:

Driven to keep you safe:  This is the snow fighter charge. It is a motto and mission that runs through everything they do.

24/7:  The red “24/7” found in the top arched-trapezoid represents the snow fighter commitment to clear the roads at all times. It’s a promise to serve the public, even if it means leaving family and friends on the most cherished of winter holidays.

1913: This date marks the first motorized snowplow in U.S. and the beginning of an industry focused on technological advancements.

Four Snowflakes: The four snowflakes represent the four points of a compass, signifying that our snow fighters cover and protect the entire state. They’ll go wherever the snow flies.

Three branches of each snowflake: This represents the effective teamwork of directors, supervisors, and crews all working closely together, as one unit, to keep our winter roads safe.

UT:  As the center of the badge, this represents our snow fighter pride in serving the great state of Utah!

Circle of red pyramids: The small pyramids connected with a line is a symbol used in weather maps to represent an imminent cold front. These typically blue peaks tell what’s coming, and on our seal, emphasize the snow fighter’s vigilance in keeping an eye on the storm.
